In the Bible, when it mentions, "the law," it's referring to the commands that God has given us (for example: the ten commandments). The curse that comes as a result of breaking any one of these commands is death. According to the Bible, if you have sinned, you deserve to die. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." ~Romans 6:23
How does Jesus make us exempt from this curse? Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” ~Galatians 3:13
Jesus, the Son of God, died in our place. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross! ~Philippians 2:8 By dying in our place, He reconciled our relationship with God. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross. ~Colossians 1:19-20 He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; He took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. ~Colossians 2:13-15 Jesus demonstrated His power by what He did on the cross. He conquered sin and death so that we can live eternally with Him. What should we do in response? We should give our lives to him. Then He said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.” ~Luke 9:23-24 Anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. ~Matthew 9:38 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ~Hebrews 12:2 Our lives should be focused on Jesus. This is the way God intended life to be - to know Him and be close to Him. Life is not about us. It's about God, and giving Him the glory. Paul, the writer of many books of the Bible, summed it up well when he wrote: May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. ~Galatians 6:14 |
